About This Cause
Friends of Furze Down is a charity that supports the pupils of Furze Down School, a specialist school for children with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). We work alongside the school to enhance the educational experience, providing resources, opportunities, and spaces that complement high-quality teaching and help pupils thrive. Through fundraising, volunteering, and community support, we create accessible learning environments, creative resources, and performance areas that encourage self-expression, collaboration, and personal growth. Inclusion is central to all we do, ensuring every child can participate fully and develop confidence, resilience, and social skills alongside their peers. We also bring the wider community together—families, volunteers, and local supporters—to celebrate each child's unique strengths and talents. Every donation and initiative enriches pupils' experiences, empowering them to explore their interests, achieve their potential, and enjoy a vibrant, supportive school environment. Friends of Furze Down exists to ensure that every pupil is valued, included, and able to flourish, complementing the school's teaching with opportunities that inspire creativity.
Our History and Journey
Since our establishment, Friends of Furze Down has built a strong foundation of community support and successful fundraising initiatives. We have developed meaningful relationships with families, local businesses, and supporters who share our commitment to inclusion and excellence in special education. Over the years, we have funded significant projects including accessible learning spaces, sensory equipment, creative arts resources, and therapeutic environments that have directly enhanced the daily experiences of pupils with EHCPs. Our volunteer base has grown steadily, and our events have become valued occasions within the school calendar, bringing together the entire Furze Down community in celebration of our children's achievements and potential.
